Arapahoe County-based engineering giant CH2M Hill and Halliburton Co. construction arm KBR are among seven companies to win an Air Force contract possibly worth $10 billion over 10 years.
CH2M Hill and KBR, formerly known as Kellogg, Brown & Root, have created a joint venture called CH2M Hill Global Services to work together on the contract.
The award is the largest of its type ever given, according to a U.S. Air Force release.
The scope of the work is largely undefined, CH2M Hill spokesman John Corsi said. The companies are to deliver services that could include engineering and construction of temporary facilities anywhere in the world.
“The Air Force has been a longtime client. This is a nice contract because it takes our full-delivery capability to a global scale,” Corsi said.
CH2M Hill has more than $3 billion in revenues and 15,000 employees worldwide.
CH2M Hill Global Services will open an office in Panama City, Fla., near Tyndall Air Force Base, where the Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency is located.
Since 1997, Readiness Management Support of Panama City has handled similar contracts, according to the Air Force release. “But world events, including the war in Kosovo, the attacks of 9/11 and the global war on terrorism, have increased the scope and requirements,” it said.
Also awarded part of the contract were Washington Group International; URS/Berger JV; Bechtel National; DynCorp International; and Readiness Management Support.
