nière and Duck in Cider Sauce at Le Hamelin Restaurant in Honfleur. There are many wonderful restaurants in Honfleur serving the specialties of Normandy. Be sure to try the local fare such as Calvados (apple brandy) and other apple specialties.
Best time to go: Late September and into October when the weather is mild and the crowds are not too plentiful.
Best travel tip: This is a great base for touring the region. It is only a 90-minute drive from Paris, and we spent three nights in Honfleur at the hotel L’Ecrin – ask for the Blue Room – while visiting the D-Day beaches, the village of Beuvron en Auge and the Bayeaux Tapestries.
