CC’s Thauwald out for rest of season

Colorado College junior forward Scott Thauwald will miss the rest of the hockey season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee that he suffered against Wisconsin on Saturday, trainer Richard Quincy said.

Quincy said Tuesday that an MRI on Thauwald’s knee also revealed additional bone and muscle damage. He is expected to have surgery next month. Thauwald was injured in the final seconds of CC’s 3-0 loss to Wisconsin when Badgers captain Adam Burish checked him along the boards.

Burish received a five-minute major penalty for excessive roughness and is disqualified for Saturday’s game against Minnesota State. Western Collegiate Hockey Association commissioner Bruce McLeod said Burish also would be required to write letters of apology to Thauwald and the Tigers, but won’t be suspended.
