Pueblo – Colorado State-Pueblo officials said they were caught off guard by a CSU System reorganization announced in August, but one member of the system’s board of governors said school officials were present when it was discussed.

CSU-Pueblo president Ronald Applbaum and other top administrators said they did not know the system was developing the plan until it was nearly complete.

The CSU System has campuses in Fort Collins and Pueblo. The reorganization calls for a new system vice president to oversee admissions, enrollment, financial aid and student recruitment; a new center to educate faculty on classroom technology; a new director of marketing; and having the public relations operation run through the president’s office.

C.W. Smith of Pueblo, a member of the CSU System Board of Governors, told the Pueblo Chieftain for Friday’s editions that Applbaum and two other CSU-Pueblo administrators were present at least once when the plan was discussed.

System president Larry Penley said Applbaum should have known about the plan because it was first discussed at a June board retreat. But Applbaum said he didn’t attend the retreat.

He said he wasn’t invited and didn’t know what was on the agenda.

Penley said the reorganization plan deals with the CSU System as a whole.
