Beaver Creek – Wednesday’s downhill training session was canceled after Beaver Creek was hit by high winds and heavy snowfall that pounded the high country. Good weather and race conditions are forecast for today’s super-G, the first of four men’s World Cup races scheduled on the Birds of Prey.
“We had a challenging day, but I think the results of what we did will be very positive (today),” chief of race Jimmy Roberts said. “It looks good for us.”
Roberts said 18 to 24 inches of snow covered the 1.7-mile course. Slope maintenance crews began removing it when it stopped falling about 1 p.m. Wednesday, and Roberts said it probably would take until 3 a.m. today to clear the course.
The downhill is scheduled for Friday, with a giant slalom Saturday and slalom Sunday. Race time today is 11 a.m.
The U.S. team trained giant slalom during the storm, then worked out and played basketball at a local athletic club.
More adverse weather is feared later in the week.
