DIA in third place for Oct. on-time arrivals

Denver International Airport ranked third nationally for on- time flight arrivals at major airports in October, according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Cincinnati was No. 1. DIA came in No. 2 in October 2004.

DIA ranked fourth for on-time departures in October, down from No. 3 a year ago.

Frontier Airlines ranked third among 20 reporting airlines for on-time arrival rates in October, with 86.2 percent of its flights on time. Frontier also had the second-lowest rate of canceled flights.

1999 Broadway tower sells for $77.65 million

The 43-story 1999 Broadway office tower has sold for $77.65 million to a joint venture created by three companies.

California-based Broadreach Capital Partners LLC, Chicago-based Transwestern Investment Co. LLC and Denver-based Equity West Investment Partners purchased the 642,000- square-foot building from Winthrop Financial Associates.

MDC offers $1 billion worth of stock, debt

Denver-based MDC Holdings is offering $1 billion worth of common stock, preferred stock and debt securities.

The company will use the proceeds from the sale for general corporate purposes. MDC owns and manages companies that build homes under the name Richmond American Homes.

Ciber OKs purchase of shares, debt

Greenwood Village-based Ciber Inc., an information-technology services company, has approved the purchase of up to $7.5 million of either common shares or convertible debt, whichever the company deems best.

The company has purchased about 1.3 million shares of stock so far this year.

Insurer adds med center to access list

UnitedHealthcare and Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center announced Thursday that they have reached an agreement to provide UnitedHealthcare members with access to the hospital, effective Dec. 15.

Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette is northwest Denver’s newest regional medical center.

United backs new Colfax Marathon

United Airlines announced Wednesday it has signed on as a sponsor of the first annual Post- News Colorado Colfax Marathon to be held in the spring.

The marathon, scheduled for May 21, will begin at the Aurora Sports Park and end at the Colorado Mills mall in Lakewood. About 23 miles of the 26.2-mile course will be run on Colfax Avenue, with short diversions into the Fitzsimons area and City Park.

Fort Collins firm to build Baxa facility

International health-care-pro d uct manufacturer Baxa Corp. has selected the Neenan Co., a Fort Collins-based design/build firm, for the design and construction of an 80,000-square-foot corporate world headquarters south of Denver.

MarkWest delays reports for SEC

MarkWest Hydrocarbon Inc. announced Thursday it has delayed the completion and filing of quarterly reports for the first, second and third quarters of 2005 with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The company was supposed to have filed the reports by Wednesday to get back into compliance with the American Stock Exchange. MarkWest said the delay was caused by performing additional review to ensure complete and accurate results.

Nov. car sales down; SUVs slide again

Customers avoided car showrooms in November, despite lower gas prices and deep discounts, handing domestic and foreign automakers a disappointing month.

The Big Three – General Motors, Ford and Chrysler – reported lower November sales Thursday, and even Toyota, which had gotten used to double-digit sales growth, had only modest gains. Sales of sport utility vehicles slid again as consumers showed a growing preference for cars and car-based crossover utilities.

Delta reports 6-week loss of $1.14 billion

Delta Air Lines Inc., the nation’s third-largest carrier, said it lost a whopping $1.14 billion in the first six weeks of its bankruptcy.

The Atlanta-based airline revealed the loss for the Sept. 15-to-Oct. 31 period in a filing Wednesday night in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York.

Ex-media exec pleads not guilty to fraud

Former media baron Conrad Black pleaded not guilty to federal fraud charges Thursday in connection with the alleged looting of more than $80 million from the Hollinger International Inc. newspaper empire he once controlled.

The 61-year-old Black is accused of cheating on taxes and pilfering millions from the company to support a lavish lifestyle.

Six Flags names Snyder chairman

Six Flags Inc. said Thursday it has unanimously appointed Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder as nonexecutive chairman. The theme-park operator owns Six Flags Elitch Gardens in Denver.
