The missing traveling trophy that goes to the winner of the CC-DU hockey series will be replaced but not renamed.
“It’s gone and as far as I’m concerned we’re not going to look for it anymore,” DU coach George Gwozdecky said of the Gold Pan, an authentic mining utensil that has been missing since a month after DU claimed it at the end of the 2003-04 regular season.
With the blessing of CC coach Scott Owens, Gwozdecky said a new Gold Pan is in the works, on DU’s dime.
“Crown Trophy of Denver is working to help design and produce a Gold Pan traveling trophy that will be presented to the team that wins this year’s series,” Gwozdecky said.
