Denver Post NFL writer Bill Williamson takes your questions each week throughout the season. To submit a question, read more answers and survey the archives, click on www.denverpost.com/broncos mailbag. A new installment is posted online each Friday.

Q: What are the chances of seeing David Terrell on the field this year? How is he doing?

J. Alonso

Gonzales, Calif.

A: Terrell is a popular guy here. If there is an injury to No. 4 receiver Todd Devoe, Terrell likely will be active. He is doing well in practice, and the staff likes him. Terrell is under contract next year, so expect to eventually see him.

Q: Does the Broncos coaching staff feel Jake Plummer is never going to get hurt or old? Why don’t we see Bradlee Van Pelt?

Bob Smith

Kansas City, Mo.

A: Coach Mike Shanahan has been asked that question often. He wants to make sure each game is completely in control before taking out his starters. In the meantime, Van Pelt is getting some decent work in practice.

Q: Jake Plummer for MVP? How about Mike Shanahan for coach of the year? The man just keeps on winning and never gets enough credit for the great job he has done as the team’s head coach throughout the years.

Frank Torres

Fresno, Calif.

A: Sure, Shanahan will likely be a strong candidate for coach of the year if Denver keeps on winning. While Lovie Smith of Chicago, Mike Holmgren of Seattle and Tony Dungy of Indianapolis will get votes, Shanahan will be as deserving as anyone if Denver wins 12 games or more.

Q: Against Dallas, Ron Dayne made the long run to the Cowboys’ 6-yard line in overtime, and Mike Shanahan elected to kick the field goal on first down. Isn’t it true that if Jason Elam had missed, the Broncos turn the ball over to Dallas? They would have been out of downs, right?

Steve Ferguson

Belleair, Fla.

A: Yes, if Elam had missed, Dallas would have taken over. However, if the snap or hold was mishandled, Denver could have downed the ball or run a play to retain possession.
