Wind gusts faster than 90 mph were clocked in Golden Monday morning as cold air began settling into the metro area, and put the northern Colorado mountains and Front Range under a high-wind warning..
As temperatures dropped, wind speeds rose from Golden to Boulder and Longmont.
A tractor-trailer rig was blown over on Interstate 25 in Pueblo, south of Denver, and the state highway department warned high-profile and lightweight vehicles not to use I-25 or U.S. 287 in northern Colorado, where winds of 65 mph were reported. A 95-mph gust
was recorded on Kenosha Pass, elevation 10,000 feet, in the mountains about 50 miles southwest of Denver. An 88-mph gust was reported southwest of Boulder.
An empty single-engine plane at the Jefferson County airport flipped over on its top.
At the Jefferson County airport, wind speeds up to 90 mph were measured. High winds are expected to continue throughout the day in areas close to the foothills, west of I-25.

High winds and adverse weather conditions contributed to a multi-vehicle accident on C-470 this morning. The highway was closed for hours between I-70 and Morrison Road.
Areas in the metro area closer to Denver and east of I-25 will see steady winds with gusts up to the 50 mph range. A gust of 56 mph was reported this morning in Washington Park.
High temperatures in the 30s today will feel colder because of the wind. However, enjoy the “warm” weather while you can because tonight’s overnight low of 11 will be more consistent with what we’ll be seeing through midweek.
Metro area temperatures in the teens and 20’s will hang around until we warm into the 40s at week’s end.
