A woman who survived 4 1/2 days pinned beneath the dead body of her 250-pound boyfriend after her car rolled off a Delta County highway was arrested Wednesday on charges stemming from the accident.

Amy Thompson is being held on a total of seven charges, three of them felonies: vehicular homicide, unlawful use of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

Rescue workers called Thompson’s endurance remarkable, and her friends thanked God that she is still alive. Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee said the 27-year-old resident of El Jebel is being held on $250,000 bail.

She also is charged with driving under the influence and driving under restraint, which are misdemeanors, along with two traffic offenses.

Thompson’s boyfriend, Christopher Miller, 37, was killed in the Oct. 16 crash on Colorado 92, 5 miles east of Delta. Patrol investigators said the accident wasn’t reported for a number of days because the car was hidden from the road.

A Colorado State Patrol investigator, Master Sgt. William Carlson, would not reveal any specifics of the investigation, but he said Thompson is still in custody and formal charges will be filed shortly by the Delta County district attorney.

Thompson’s legal troubles are not exclusive to Delta County.

She also has three separate cases pending against her in Garfield County, including a felony theft charge and two charges of felony possession of heroin.

She has yet to plead in any of the cases in Garfield. A hearing is set for Jan. 6 to discuss what to do next.
