Doug Kemper, chief water planner for the city of Aurora, has been hired as executive director of the Colorado Water Congress, an organization of water professionals with a history of influence on state water laws.

Kemper starts work Thursday.

He said he first would familiarize himself with the Water Congress’ operation and membership, then visit areas of the state to meet with other water leaders and organizations.

“I look forward to the challenge and look forward to meeting this broad and energetic constituency,” Kemper said in a statement.

Kemper will assume duties left by the pending retirement of the organization’s secretary, Rich ard MacRavey, whom Water Congress president David Robbins called “a man whose energy, determination and commitment is unsurpassed.

“CWC is a successful organization today because of Dick, and we will forever be overwhelmingly appreciative of his tenure.”

MacRavey has been a lobbyist for more than four decades and head of the Water Congress for more than 25 years.

MacRavey’s service will be recognized during a Water Congress banquet on Jan. 27.
