A man wanted on a first- degree murder charge in Colorado will have an extradition hearing today in Louisiana, where he was arrested last month.
Sir Mario Owens, 21, asked for the extradition hearing, claiming he’s not the man wanted in connection with the July 4, 2004, shooting in Aurora’s Lowry Park that killed Gregory Vann and injured Javad Marshall-Fields and Elvin Bell.
Owens is the second person charged in the shooting, which occurred after a Fourth of July so-called rap battle at the park.
Robert Keith Ray was arrested in 2004 and initially charged with being an accomplice. Ray is scheduled to have a hearing Thursday in which prosecutors will recommend whether to ask for the death penalty.
A week before Ray’s trial was to start, Marshall-Fields was shot and killed, along with his fiancée, Vivian Wolfe. Police suspect the June 20 double homicide was connected to the 2004 shooting, but no arrests have been made in the double homicide.
