Getting your player ready...

The beauty of outdoor spectator sports such as skiing and snowboarding in Colorado is they aren’t just for spectators. Participation, in fact, is encouraged. That’s not to say the organizers of the Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix kicking off in Breckenridge today want you to drop in on Danny Kass and Shaun White while they’re throwing down in the Peak 8 Super Pipe this Wednesday and Saturday. But it is to say that the pipe – located a couple of hundred yards up from the base of Peak 8 – offers an excellent excuse for local riders to strap on their boards and use them as they were intended – for riding down mountains. And if you’re seeking some inspiration in the meantime, you might stop to watch the top riders in the world as they compete in the first U.S. Olympic Team qualifier of the season. Competition starts with qualifying at 9:30 each morning, followed by the finals at noon Wednesday and Saturday. The capper comes Saturday at 7 p.m., when the riders will put on a quarterpipe aerial exhibition.
