As usual, Colorado scholastic winter play will shut down for the holidays.

Having completed the final full week of regular-season play before the holidays Saturday, and with school districts on a two-week break, winter action will have a lighter schedule Monday through Thursday, notably highlighted by tournaments.

The mandatory no-practice rule will be in effect from Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day.

Play for the five sports – boys and girls basketball, ice hockey, boys and girls skiing, girls swimming and wrestling – will resume in earnest Jan. 4.

Most basketball programs will be in league play by mid-January, setting up a stretch run into the third week of February.
