Blues could be singing the blues
The St. Louis Blues have the longest current playoff streak in the four major North American professional team sports, but they are in jeopardy of having it end after 25 seasons. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Boston Bruins hold the record for the longest playoff streak, 29 seasons from 1967-68 to 1995-96. The Blues, who last failed to qualify for the playoffs in 1979, had the fewest victories (six) and the fewest points (16) in the league entering Saturday’s play.
Ali honored
Muhammad Ali received a prestigious German peace prize Saturday in Berlin, drawing a standing ovation when he accepted the award for his contribution to the U.S. civil rights movement and to the United Nations. The 63-year-old Ali, who has Parkinson’s disease, received the Otto Hahn peace medal from Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit. Ali is the first sports figure to receive the prize.
