A Vail Resorts subsidiary has acquired a 1-acre parcel in Vail for about $3.3 million, the company said Thursday. The sale includes the former Vail Amoco service station at the corner of Forest Road and South Frontage Road.

Vail Resorts closed the service station so work can begin in conjunction with its massive Lionshead redevelopment.

“While a purchase of a gas station is not by itself an earth-shattering event, the fact that it facilitates potentially lucrative development is a very positive step forward,” said Vail Resorts chief executive Adam Aron.

Chuck Harrison, who has sold real estate in Vail since 1977, said the price Vail paid for the parcel was reasonable.

“You see very little in Vail in terms of sales” of land zoned for commercial property, said Harrison, a broker with Coldwell Banker.
