No Gunnison CWD
The Division of Wildlife found no evidence of chronic wasting disease in the Gunnison Basin deer herd during the recent hunting season. The wildlife agency chose units 54, 55, 551, 66 and 67 for mandatory testing as part of a continuing survey to monitor the disease fatal to deer and elk. Hunters submitted 1,316 animals and another 23 killed by vehicles also were tested. No positive results were found.
Volunteers needed

Project Wild
A workshop for local educators who wish to participate in Project Wild will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the middle school in Burlington. A cost of $15 includes all materials. New fish find
A previously unknown population of Rio Grande sucker has been discovered in the river in the San Luis Valley, boosting the prospects for recovery of a species listed as endangered in Colorado and on a watch list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The only other location for the fish had been in Hot Creek, west of La Jara. This latest find is in Crestone Creek in the Baca National Wildlife Refuge.
