The Children’s Museum of Denver will be closed today after a fire Wednesday damaged the north exterior wall.
Museum officials say they don’t know what caused the fire, which started about 11:30 p.m. and was contained before it reached the interior.
The museum, at Interstate 25 and West 23rd Avenue, had significant smoke damage to the first and second floors and its exhibits. None were ruined, but museum staffers are doing a complete restoration, clearing the ash and smoke in the hope of reopening Saturday. Activities on the plaza will run as scheduled today.
Materials used in some hands-on exhibits – toilet paper rolls, tissue boxes and milk jugs – were destroyed and must be replaced. Call 303-433-7444 to donate.
