Washington – The White House fired back Tuesday at former Vice President Al Gore over his criticism of President Bush’s secret domestic eavesdropping program.
Presidential spokesman Scott McClellan said Tuesday: “If Al Gore is going to be the voice of the Democrats on national security matters, we welcome it.” He suggested Gore does not understand the threat facing America from terrorists overseas.
In a speech Monday, Gore denounced the program as illegal and a threat to the U.S. system of government. The American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Constitutional Rights filed lawsuits Tuesday seeking to block the program.
