HISTORY MUSEUM
Exhibit touts role of women
The Colorado History Museum features a new exhibition, “A Woman’s Place … is on the Range.”
It recognizes the centennial of the National Western by looking at the role women have played since the 1800s in ranching, cattle and stock associations, rodeo and stock shows, and these influences on popular culture.

Q&A
Jimmy Schumacher, now 85 and living in Las Vegas, was a rodeo clown, bull rider, bareback rider and bullfighter for more then three decades. He retired in the early 1970s.
Q: Which museums have you been inducted into?
A: I’m in the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, the Gene Autry Museum in California and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma.
Q: You competed and worked at the National Western rodeo among other rodeos. You visited the 100th National Western. When was the last time you attended a National Western rodeo?
A: Oh, it must have been 10 years ago.
Q: While you were here, did you visit the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame?
A: Yes, I went down to visit my barrel. I patented my barrel. It’s red and white and has tires around it.
Q: How many times did a bull whack your barrel, and you?
A: More times than I can count. I broke 21 bones, including all my ribs on one side – some in two, three places – and my lung was punctured.
NWSS EARNS RECOGNITION
Stock show rated a top event
True West magazine has selected the National Western as one of its Top Western Events of the Year.
“This is the quintessential livestock show in the nation. No wonder it’s been going on for 100 years. … Here’s hoping the celebration continues for another century,” says the magazine’s March edition.
