While the X Gamers flip and float on the big screen in Aspen this weekend, the future of professional snowsports can be seen at Keystone. The 2006 Sports Illustrated for Kids Next Snow Search unites the event’s 2004 and 2005 all-star tykes in a competition through a Big Mountain course and terrain park that intimidates riders three times their age and weight. The annual event – with qualifying competitions at 100 mountains across the country – features skiers and boarders ages 9-13 in an all-mountain freeride competition that helps identify the next generation of snowy superstars. The athleticism displayed at a Next Snow showdown rivals that of any other big event, with flying tykes mirroring the biggest moves seen at the X Games. Even better, at Next Snow the attitude, personality and style of each competitor weighs as much as skill, eliminating the often overwhelming attitudes crowding the X Games events.

The Next Snow all-star event runs Friday and Saturday at Keystone.
