Bob Carskie has opted out as head football coach at Class 5A Boulder.
“I’ve chosen to stay on as athletic director, and it’s my decision to step down,” Carskie said Tuesday.
He said he will miss coaching, but “this is the best way for me to be involved with the most student-athletes and affect the entire athletic program.”
Carskie, 53, came to the Panthers of the Centennial League in 2000 after serving as the director of football operations at Iowa State. He led the Panthers to two state playoff appearances, in 2000 and 2003, and compiled a record of 25-37.
Boulder’s search for a head coach has started, and anyone interested in the job may contact the school at 303-447-5315.
On the recruiting trail, Anthony Trevino, a running back at 5A Ponderosa in Parker, has received an appointment to the Air Force Academy. The 6-foot, 180-pound Trevino was all-National League last season.
Also, Columbine in Jefferson County will send two players out of state, both offensive linemen – Joel Buschmann to New Mexico State and Tyler Rogers to Utah State. Both are 6-5, 290, and Buschmann, who battled injuries in 2005, was 5A all-state honorable mention by The Denver Post.
