Who’s making news? The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation at Denver, for starters.
At its annual meeting, chaired by Sharon Whiton Gelt and held at the Wellshire Inn, retiring president Margy Epke revealed just how successful the members’ fundraising efforts had been by presenting the following checks: $100,000 to the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes; $125,000 to the Barbara Davis Center for the purchase of research equipment; and $100,000 to the center’s H. Peter Chase Endowment. Chris Foster will lead the Guild in 2006. Debbie Gradishar is the new president-elect; Sally Newcomb is recording secretary; Lisa Corley is treasurer and Adrienne Fitzgibbons the treasurer-elect. Susan Greenwald serves as corresponding secretary.
Happy news, too, from Jan Blankennagel, who responded with an enthusiastic “yes!” when her beau of one year, John Godzac, popped the question in Times Square while they were making a Christmas visit to New York. He’s a director at Ball Aerospace and she is the western division special events manager for Foley’s. The proposal came within hours of a phone call letting her know that Macy’s, which has acquired Foley’s, wants her to stay on in the same capacity once the changeover is complete. “He said, ‘Does that mean you’ll be staying in Denver?”‘ Blankennagel recalled, “and I said it did. Then he asked if I’d like to spend the rest of my life with him, and I said I would.” Their first stop after returning to Denver: Trice Jewelers for the diamond-and-platinum sparkler Jan’s sporting on her third finger, left hand.
