Dave Otto can’t stay out of the bar, but he has a legitimate reason.

The one-time deejay at KDJM 92.5-FM (“Jammin”‘) is living a dream, a dream that his regular Friday night appearances at The Brickhouse, 58th and Garrison in Arvada, will revive the R&B format that died when parent CBS Radio of Denver switched “Jammin”‘ to country.

Otto’s hosting “Keep the Music Alive,” a series of live-music nights every Friday, including tonight, with bands playing classic soul and R&B.

“It’s the idea of keeping that presence, encouraging a station to add a format or a station to keep the format alive,” says Otto. “There are a lot of people who would like to have the format back on.”

There are at least three petitions circulating to keep R&B alive somewhere on the Denver dial, even if CBS is steadfast in its decision to drop “Jammin’.” “They’re not going to change their minds,” Otto admits. “But supporting clubs that play ‘Jammin” music might convince people who are looking to put the format back on the air that there is an audience out there.”

Bands play from 10 p.m. to midnight on Fridays.

It’s a dog’s life

Have no fear, Overdog is here!

Turns out Dylan, the airborne pooch who shares the bright red KDVR-Channel 31 helicopter with pal/reporter/pilot Rob Marshall, wasn’t missing, just out of camera range.

Viewers were concerned last week that Dylan hadn’t been seen on the station’s “Good Morning Colorado!” for some time.

“Our dog.cam has been broken,” says Bill Dallman, Fox’s news director. “It’s being repaired and Dylan will be back this week.” He’s already got 3,000 hours of flight time under his collar.
