Smith Seckman Reid, a nationally known engineering company based in Nashville, Tenn., has gained a presence in Colorado with the acquisition of Denver’s Gordon Gumeson and Associates, an engineering-design company.

The Denver company’s 35 employees will join the more than 420 employees of 38-year-old Smith Seckman Reid. No layoffs are planned, a Smith Seckman spokesman said Wednesday.

The employee-owned companies didn’t reveal terms of the acquisition.

SSR has a strategic plan that calls for geographic and market diversification, said Richard Morris, executive vice president, who will oversee the Denver office. SSR has nine offices in five states.

Gordon Gumeson designs electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems. The company also assists clients with master planning, budgeting, cost estimating and other services.

SSR provides a range of consulting services in health care, science and technology, research, sports and entertainment, and corrections.
