Brad Pitt tried to book the luxurious Villa d’Este hotel on the shores of Lake Como, Italy, around Valentine’s Day – supposedly to marry Angelina Jolie, the Daily Mirror reported. The hotel, near Pitt pal George Clooney’s Laglio villa, alas, will be closed until March 1 for renovations.

“(Pitt) was asking about booking every room for guests and the villa and the grounds for a wedding venue” during the first two weeks of February, hotel director Jean Marc Droulers told the Mirror.

Kate Moss, as a supermodel, is back in vogue. Make that British Vogue. The magazine’s publisher, Conde Nast, announced its March issue will feature Moss, her 21st Vogue cover.

Pictures of Moss allegedly using cocaine were published in the Daily Mirror last year. Moss finally discussed the drug allegations with London detectives Tuesday. British reports claim the model will not face charges.

Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer will fill in on ABC’s “World News Tonight” for anchorman Bob Woodruff, who was injured in a roadside bombing in Iraq. Woodruff and Elizabeth Vargas became co-anchors of the evening newscast just a month ago.

Further proof that we’re glad “Will & Grace” is nearing the end of its run: Britney Spears will appear on the NBC comedy. On the April 13 episode, Spears will play a Christian conservative sidekick to Sean Hayes’ character, Jack, who hosts his own talk show. Jack’s fictional gay network, Out TV, is bought by a Christian TV network, leading to Spears joining a cooking segment called “Cruci-fixin’s.”

Jennifer Aniston appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” last September and discussed her nasty breakup with Brad Pitt. In a bit of quid pro quo, as Hannibal Lecter would say, Winfrey agreed to hype James Frey’s since-

discredited memoir, “A Million Little Pieces,” Star magazine reported. Aniston owned the film rights to Frey’s book. Her reps deny the story, but Warner Bros. is getting cold feet about making the book into a film.

Meanwhile, Frey has lost his literary manager. Kassie Evashevski, Frey’s rep for more than four years, told Publisher Weekly she was dropping him as a client.

Couric’s left sitting pretty with Roberts’ exit at CBS

The Katie Couric rumor mill no doubt is spinning faster. White House correspondent John Roberts has jumped ship at CBS to become a senior national correspondent based in Washington for CNN. He starts Feb. 20, the cable network announced.

Roberts, 49, was considered the top internal choice to succeed Dan Rather, who left the anchor chair nearly a year ago. But CBS News President Andrew Heyward’s ouster changed that. CBS chief executive Les Moonves has led the courting of Couric, the “Today Show” co-host, whose NBC contract expires in May.
