Atlanta Falcons defensive end Brady Smith handed Colorado State football coach Sonny Lubick a check for $75,000 this week. Lubick designated it for video equipment updates and weight room purchases. Last spring, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Joey Porter donated $200,000 toward a locker room renovation.
“That’s almost $300,000 that guys have given back to the program,” Lubick said. “I can’t thank Brady enough.”
Smith attended Sunday’s team banquet after he was unable to come to Fort Collins last fall for his school Hall of Fame induction.
“I didn’t ask him for money,” Lubick said. “He came in Monday morning and said, ‘Coach, I’d like to do something for the program,’ and wrote us a nice check. He told me he had been thinking about what Joey had said about without CSU: ‘Where would I be?”‘
Smith played at CSU from 1992-95.
