York (Neb.) College defeated Colorado Mines 7-6 on Sunday at Auraria Field to win the season-opening three-game baseball series for both teams.
Angelo Tavelli was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead York (2-1) in the rubber game. Tavelli scored on a throwing error in the top of the ninth for the winning run.
Nick Walker hit a three-run home run for Mines (1-2) in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 6-6.
CU men’s tennis team defeats Montana State
The 51st-ranked University of Colorado men’s tennis team won five singles matches in straight sets to defeat No. 71 Montana State in Boulder and remain undefeated (4-0) this season.
Colorado’s Peter Bjork, Chad Tsuda and Marko Bundalo remained perfect through their individual spring matches.
Colorado ski team wins own invitational
The University of Colorado ski team won its own meet Saturday, placing first in the CU/Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial Invitational after four rounds over two weekends at Steamboat Springs.
Colorado won with 592 points, New Mexico was second at 544 and defending national champion Denver third at 531 1/2. Western State finished eighth with 222 points, and Wyoming was 10th with 58.
The Buffaloes’ Lisa Perricone won Saturday’s women’s slalom with a time of 1 minute, 29.20 seconds. CU’s Lucie Zikova finished second in 1:30.60. Denver’s Todd Ligare won the men’s giant slalom in 2:07.56.
