Rocky Mountain National Park will close out the 100-event international Winter Trails Program on Saturday with the largest snowshoeing stomp of the season.

Last year more than 1,000 trampled powder inside the park as part of the North American effort to get people out in the snow. The Estes Park-supported festival offers free snowshoes and cross country skiing equipment for all newcomers. Park rangers will offer guided hikes and avalanche awareness lessons at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. during the 10 a.m.-3 p.m. event. Tented sponsors will offer the latest in snow-strolling gadgetry and igloo builders will provide demonstrations of their craft. The family-friendly fest, at the park’s Glacier Basin area off Bear Lake Road, is the largest of the 100-event Winter Trails Organization’s season-long snow celebration. Best access is the park’s southern entrance off U.S. 36.
