Eric Vaughn tired of constantly removing his gloves while riding. Hot hands, phone ringing, sunscreen application. Too many chances to drop a glove off a lift. Too much on and off. So the Salt Lake City snowboarder grabbed some scissors and cut a slit on top of the glove. A light bulb went on and a year ago he created a company, Vaughn Outdoors, to carry his zippered glove to the masses. In a rare segment of the ski industry that has seen little, if any, big changes over the years, Vaughn’s CZiP gloves and mittens (MSRP $60-$160) are probably the biggest innovation in wintertime handwear. A simple zipper below the knuckles allows unencumbered fingers to fuss and fiddle while the glove remains attached to the wrist.
