Washington – The White House has confirmed that President Bush will be touring and speaking at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden on Tuesday.
Bush will fly into the Denver area Monday night from Michigan and stay overnight at an unannounced location in Arapahoe County.
On Tuesday, he’s to take a tour of NREL, then participate in a panel on energy conservation and efficiency. He plans to return to Washington on Tuesday evening.
Gov. Bill Owens and Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., have said they expect to appear with Bush at the event.
The president’s visit comes in the wake of 31 layoffs at the federally funded facility caused by budget cuts.
Bush’s budget for the next fiscal year would restore most of the money cut from its budget last year.
In his State of the Union speech Jan. 31, Bush said the country is “addicted to oil” and must wean itself from foreign imports. He highlighted alternative-fuel vehicles, ethanol from agricultural waste, and solar- and wind-power technologies.
Since the speech, he has been making appearances around the country in support of the energy policies he announced.
