
Ashley Gronewoller’s 27 points led eighth-seeded Colorado Mines to a 71-57 upset over top-seeded Regis on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the women’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout.
Colorado Mines (15-13) shot 67 percent from the field and held Regis (26-5), the RMAC’s top- scoring team with a 77.1-point average, to 32 percent.
Iva Tomova added 14 points for the Orediggers.
Diana Lopez led the Rangers with 19 points, and her sister, Denise Lopez, finished with 18.
NEB.-KEARNEY 79, METRO ST. 66
Kearney, Neb. – Fourth- seeded Nebraska-Kearney raced to a 44-28 halftime lead and had four players in double figures in eliminating Metro State.
Liz Fischer led all scorers with 20 points for the Lopers (21-7).
Paige Powers led the Roadrunners (18-9) with 17 points, while Rianna Harris added 10.
FORT LEWIS 69, CU-COLO. SPRINGS 54
Durango – Fort Lewis shot 57 percent in the first half in grabbing a 46-24 advantage and coasted from there to eliminate CU-Colorado Springs.
The second-seeded Skyhawks (16-12) were led by Erin Kerr’s 19 points. Jennine Sauter scored 19 points to lead CU-Colorado Springs (12-16).
CSU-PUEBLO 69, FORT HAYS STATE 55
Hays, Kan. – Karin Hansen scored 23 points to lead the sixth-seeded ThunderWolves (17-11) to the upset victory over the third-seeded Tigers (21-7).
Crystal Harden had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Fort Hays State.
MEN
Durango – No. 7 seed Colorado Mines held off a late Fort Lewis rally to upset the No. 2 seed Skyhawks 72-71.
The Orediggers (15-13) were led by Kyle Pape’s 25 points.
Tim Bieri scored 34 for Fort Lewis (18-9).
METRO ST. 68, MESA ST. 58
Michael Bahl scored 21 points to lead the Roadrunners (20-8) past the Mavericks.
Stephen Soriano led Mesa State (19-9) with 15 points.
Metro State advanced to play No. 1 seed Fort Hays State (26-2), which defeated New Mexico Highlands 73-69.
NEB.-KEARNEY 80, ADAMS ST. 65
Kearney, Neb. – Dusty Jura and Chad Burger each scored 18 points as the Lopers (21-7) eliminated the Grizzlies (13-15).
