Trout extravaganza
It’s a strange but tempting brew, this inaugural Trout and Fly Fishing Days scheduled for Friday-Sunday at Bass Pro Shops’ Outdoor World, 7970 E. 49th Ave.
The series of free seminars featuring many of the area’s leading authorities is easy enough to fathom. So is the participation of several Trout Unlimited chapters and other clubs.
What makes this event unique is certain fly-fishing specialty shops that might be considered competitors – Denver Angler, Golden River Sports, High Country Anglers, Rick’s Rods, Wild Basin Outfitters and Blue Quill Angler – also will be represented.
A number of fly-tying demonstrations and a kids learning center will complete a lineup that includes:
Friday: 10 a.m., Bob Hix on fly-fishing South Park; 11 a.m., Hix on fishing streamers and droppers; noon, Al Noraker on women in fly-fishing; 2 p.m., John Blyth on deep-water nymphing techniques; 3 p.m., Blyth on fly-fishing Gray Reef; 5 p.m., John St. John on drift boat fishing in Colorado, also, Chris Conway on fishing dry flies.

Land sale comment
The U.S. Forest Service has opened a public comment period, through March 30, for the controversial sale of up to 300,000 acres of public land, part of it in Colorado.
The proposal by the Bush administration, which makes the parcels available first to state governments and nonprofit land trusts at market value, has been roundly criticized by various conservation and resource groups.
Comments may be e-mailed to SRS_Land_Sales@fs.fed.us or, sent in writing to USDA Forest Service, SRS Comments, Lands 4S, 1400 Independence Ave., SW, Mailstop 1124, Washington, D.C. 20250.
Fly-fishing radio
A Denver-based Internet firm has launched a radio show, “Ask About Fly-Fishing,” to be broadcast live over the Internet and via teleconference calls.
The twice-monthly shows differ from conventional radio in that they are recorded for later viewing on the website, www.askaboutflyfishing.com/media.
The next broadcast, 7 p.m., March 15, will feature noted angler Mike Lawson. Other shows will include Jack Dennis, Gary Borger and AK Best.
