Firefighters were mopping up a wildfire in Larimer County late Saturday just as another small one ignited west of Boulder, officials say.
The grass fire that started about 9 a.m. near Storm Mountain in Larimer County northwest of Drake had expanded to 10 to 15 acres, and firefighters estimated it was 80 percent contained, said Clayton Cross, spokesman for the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.
A single-engine tanker plane was used to fight the blaze. Firefighters from Loveland and four other departments responded.
A fire that started about 2:30 p.m. Saturday west of Boulder in Left Hand Canyon burned about 6 acres of grassland, Boulder County Undersheriff Tom Shomaker said. It was fully contained within a few hours, he said.
Earlier Saturday, firefighters put out a small brush fire near Castle Rock.
It started as a house fire around 4 a.m. Crews were dispatched to the home, which was still under construction, in the 2300 block of Saddle Back Road.
Fanned by winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour, the fire spread to nearby grassland and burned about 10 acres east to Founders Parkway before firefighters could put it out. Founders Parkway was closed at Crow Foot Valley Road while the fire was still burning.
