Pueblo – A savvy Eads club started fast and held off Revere 46-42 down the stretch Thursday in the opening round of the Class 1A boys state tournament at Colorado State-Pueblo.
Kenan Gooden made a three-point play on a steal and fast-break basket with 2:32 remaining to put the Eagles ahead for good 41-39 after Revere had taken a brief lead.
Gooden, a sophomore, who started on last year’s state runner-up team, led the Eagles with 20 points.

KIT CARSON 46, SHINING MOUNTAIN 34: Junior Damon Dechant poured in 20 points to lead Kit Carson to a comfortable victory over Shining Mountain.
The No. 2-seeded Wildcats led from the outset and finished strong behind Dechant.
Shining Mountain was forced to foul late , and Kit Carson connected on 8-of-12 free throws to extend its advantage.

IDALIA 54, CREEDE 34: Idalia senior Kevin Lengel spread his 24 points through all four quarters as the Wolves dominated No. 3-seeded Creede en route to a victory.
Idalia’s Lucas Devlin teamed with Lengel in the first quarter to jump to a quick lead only to have Creede cut the advantage to eight at halftime.
The pair went to work in the third and stretched the margin back to a dozen at the start of the fourth. Devlin finished with 15 points and the Wolves all but shut down Creede’s attack.

HI-PLAINS 59, HOLY TRINITY 48: Cody Henry got hot at the right time as undefeated Hi-Plains held off gutsy Holy Trinity in Pueblo.
The No. 1-seeded Patriots (24-0) led by as many as eight, but the Tigers took advantage of a Hi-Plains cold spell in the third quarter to rally behind Troy Micek and Nathaniel Jimenez. But Henry (22 points) erupted in the fourth to lead the Patriots back.
