Ball Aerospace & Technologies has teamed with two other companies on a proposal to build a new spacecraft that will carry cargo to and from the International Space Station.
If the team wins the contract, Boulder-based Ball Aerospace would develop the electronics that would control the spacecraft, company spokeswoman Emilia Reed said Monday.
The company’s partners on the proposal are Houston- based SpaceHab and Richmond, British Columbia-based MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates.
The spacecraft is part of NASA’s Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program.
Separately, Ball Aerospace will be honored today at the state Capitol as part of Colorado Space Day. The company is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Space Day is sponsored by Sen. Ron May and Rep. Bill Cadman, both R-Colorado Springs, to recognize the state’s aerospace industry. It has occurred every other year since 2002.
Lockheed Martin will be honored for its work on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.
“We’ve got big stuff going on in Colorado,” May said. “It’s a ‘thank you’ and a celebration for all.”
Aerospace exhibits will be on display at the Capitol through Friday.
