The sample tray at the Avon Bakery & Deli is enough reason to stop by. The dough squeezers at Avon’s best bakery offer thick-sliced samples of their tastiest artisan breads for all visitors. Don’t miss their olive loaf and challah. There’s more to the bustling bakery than bread though. A long list of sandwiches and deli fare is made to order. The breakfast sandwich – on a fat ciabatta roll with thick bacon and a fried egg – is better than homemade. They also serve Vail Roasters coffee, which handily beats the burnt Starbucks brew next door. And the secret deal that will likely end upon publication of this note: The breakfast sandwich and a cuppa joe is $5 when you ask for it.
Get there — 25 Hurd Lane in Avon, next to the Starbucks and Burger King.
