“A Fistful of Rock”
ROCK, MULTIMEDIA|The Colorado Springs-based trash-rock group The Mansfields headlines “A Fistful of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” The event’s promoters call it “a spaghetti-Western-inspired evening of music, performance poetry, video art and squinty-eyed extreme close-ups.” It is, they say, a “rock ‘n’ roll cabaret with a vaudeville lining.” Others scheduled to appear include performance poet Lenny Chernila and the bands Get Three Coffins Ready and The StartUps.|8 p.m. Saturday|3 Kings Tavern, 60 S. Epps in the house
COMEDY|Comedian Mike Epps is hot. He is developing a half-hour series, “The Unsuccessful Thug,” with HBO. His comedy tour is selling out major comedic venues around the country. And he has been tapped to play Richard Pryor in a biographical film about the late comic legend. Grammy guitarist
FUNK|Leo Nocentelli is known as “the funkiest, fast-fingered guitar player there is.” Nocentelli is leader and founding member of the Meters, who are known as the “pioneers of funk.” The band won the Grammy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. Diavolo returns
DANCE|Diavolo, a Los Angeles-based dance company that made a sold-out appearance in Denver in February, returns to Colorado for two performances under the auspices of the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.
