Bandwagon antics for a low cover.
Lo and behold – the open stage forum has spoken yet again, this time out on east Colfax.
Ed Ward (known for his “Testosterone Monologues” in the same location) facilitates this opportunity for performers, ranging from poets to parodies, to take advantage of unstructured, unscripted stage time.
Acts can call a few days before to sign up, and the audience has little to do besides showing up to the PS 1515 to be entertained in a smoke-free bar/restaurant/venue.
What: East Side Open
Where: 1515 Madison Street, 8 p.m.
Cost: $5

Pitchers and pizza and specials.
Oh my.
While it’s safe to say that not much has changed at Bonnie Brae Tavern since its establishment in 1934, between the linoleum floor and plasticized leather booths, you can still find families at tables and loungers at the bar.
But certain important updates haven’t failed to cross minds and menus at the legendary neighborhood tavern; for instance, you can get a pitcher of Stella Artois for $9.
Smoking is still allowed at the bar (though not for long, right?), and they’ve got decent pizza (we prefer the white variety), and you can often hear patrons muttering phrases that start with “I remember when we came here back in 1970-something something.”
Bonnie Brae holds fast to a slower time, but keeps pace with themselves. Swing by for lunch, dinner, or later, and perhaps you’ll find yourself quietly thanking this mysterious Brae character for sticking around for so long.
