Edmonton, Alberta – The Colorado Mammoth got two- goal games from five players and dominated the second and third quarters en route to a 13-7 victory over the Edmonton Rush on Saturday night at Rexall Place.
The Mammoth improved to 7-5, keeping pace with the Calgary Roughnecks for a share of the lead in the National Lacrosse League’s West Division. The expansion Rush fell to 1-12.
Mammoth forward Ben Prepchuk, a native of the Edmonton suburb of Sherwood Park, led all scorers with six points on two goals and four assists. Dan Carey, Nick Carlson, Chris Gill and Gavin Prout each added two goals for the Mammoth, while Andrew Burkholder, Brian Langtry and Dan Stroup each scored once.
Mammoth defender Jay Jalbert had a game-high five assists and goaltender Gee Nash made 38 saves to earn the victory. Jamie Bowen led the Rush with two goals and Pat Campbell made 37 saves and took the loss in goal for Edmonton.
The Mammoth trailed 3-2 early in the second quarter before Carey’s second goal ignited a six-goal run. Third-quarter goals by Carlson, Prepchuk and Stroup extended the Mammoth’s lead to 11-4.
Gait loses Baltimore post
Gary Gait was fired Friday as coach of the Baltimore Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse, seven months after leading Baltimore to the title in the outdoor league
Gait, the coach of the Mammoth of the NLL, has been the player-coach of the Bayhawks since 2002. The Bayhawks would like Gait to continue playing for them.
