Nebraska’s baseball team prevented a second consecutive upset at the hands of Northern Colorado, beating the Bears 9-1 in Lincoln, Neb. UNC stunned the Huskers, ranked No. 3 and No. 8 in the major polls, 5-2 on Tuesday.
Northern Colorado (9-17) was hitless the first three innings Wednesday. Nebraska (18-4) was led by former Thomas Jefferson High School star Luke Gorsett, a junior right fielder who leads the Big 12 Conference in home runs. His solo shot in the sixth inning was his 10th homer of the season. Nick Sullivan, a freshman from Pomona, had two of the Huskers’ 12 hits and drove in two runs.
UNC scored in the seventh on senior right fielder Devin Warner’s RBI single. Seth Tartler, Zach Harris, John Ray and Jeff Horn also contributed to the Bears’ five hits. Seth Gilleland (1-5) was the losing pitcher for UNC.
