The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League evened their conference semifinal series with the Oklahoma City Blazers on Sunday with a 5-3 victory at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. The series is tied 1-1 and moves to Oklahoma City for Game 3 on Tuesday.
Chris Hartsburg scored the winner midway through the second period as his goal put the Eagles up 4-1.
DU women’s lacrosse extends school record
Tanya Fuchs scored six goals Sunday to lead the University of Denver women’s lacrosse team to an 18-7 victory over California in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.
The Pioneers (9-2, 3-0) extended a team-best seven-game winning streak and their nine wins are the most in their eight-year history. Jocelyn Paul led Cal (4-7, 1-1) with three goals. Stephanie Greenlees scored four goals for Denver, while Kristie Leggio added two.
Carlson’s 135 RBIs a UCCS career record
Brittni Carlson, a left fielder on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs softball team, hit a solo home run in the first game of a doubleheader with Mesa State to set a school record with 135 career RBIs and the teams split the two games.
UCCS won 7-4 in the first game and Mesa State took the second 10-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup at Mountain Lion Field in Colorado Springs. Carlson’s fifth-inning homer broke Becki Leopoldus’ school record set from 1995-98.
In the first game, UCCS (23-4, 14-4) was led by pitcher Amanda Ritchie’s 12 strikeouts. In the second game, Mesa State (10-15, 10-10) got 18 hits.
