Joe Butler isn’t the first person to conceive the idea of a fly rod with interchangeable tips for separate utility. But the Denver angler noted for his nymphing success has devised a multisystem rod that’s outstanding for roll casting and other tasks that deliver weight while also providing lighter action for dry flies. It’s a bargain besides.
This six-piece system includes two butt sections that never change. For heavy duty, add the two pieces that make this a 9-foot, 6-weight. Butler designed this combination with a slightly flexible tip that fairly catapults line for roll casting or slinging lead.
Choose the other two pieces, and it becomes a softer action 9-foot, 5-weight suitable for dry-fly fishing.
“If you break any of the four end sections, you always can put together something to fish with until it’s fixed,” Butler says of a product that carries a lifetime warranty with a $30 repair charge.
The butt section also has a 30-inch ruler to facilitate measurement and quick release. The system costs $199.95 and is available locally at Absolute Angler, Denver Angler, Golden River Sports and at Vern’s in Fort Collins. For information, call 720-635-2656 or log onto www.Butlerfishing.com.
