While NetDevil puts the final touches on its massive 3D world from its studios in Louisville, a downtown Denver developer wraps up a new online collectible trading-card game based on the “Auto Assault” property.

NetDevil head Scott Brown credits the idea for an “Auto Assault” card game to the title’s producer.

“His thinking was, launching an online game isn’t just launching a game, it’s building a brand,” Brown said.

Worlds Apart Production was a natural partner. In addition to sharing a Colorado base with NetDevil, Worlds Apart has made several online trading card games, including one based on the “Lord of the Rings” film franchise.

Online trading cards games work much like their cardboard cousins. Players buy packages of cards, assemble playing decks, then battle it out on a customized play board. Complex rules and a seemingly endless supply of unique cards provide a daunting obstacle for the new player. But online, the computer guides novice players through the trickiest game details.

The result is an entertaining combination of card-shark tactics with the dramatic flair of a 3D world.

Add the chance to win special game world objects by playing the card game or rare cards playing the online 3D game, and you have a full house of marketing magic.

The “Auto Assault Training Card Game” is running a free public trial. Find out more at autoassaulttcg.com.
