For alpine skiers nervous about making the switch to nonreleasing free-heeled bindings, the evolution of the telemark ski binding continues as Karhu introduces the 7tm Power Tour – the first telemark binding to combine a DIN-certified release system with active downhill power and touring efficiency. A follow-up to Karhu’s successful 7tm Tour bindings, which were the first to combine a free-pivot tour function with universally recognized DIN-release certification, the 7tm Power Tour increases downhill performance by adding an estimated 30 percent more power to turns through increased stiffness and responsiveness. Skiers can choose between the binding’s “active” performance setting and a more neutral feel (for touring) by pulling a “power pin” out of the bindings.
The 7tm Power Tour replaces the 7tm Tour in Karhu’s product line next season, and the company will offer a Power Tour Upgrade Kit for skiers who bought the 7tm Tour bindings during the previous two winters. The Upgrade Kit, available this fall, includes two new tension straps and two power pins, along with detailed instructions for making the switch.
