The nation’s largest cable provider said today that it would begin selling phone, video and high-speed Internet service at Wal-Mart stores this spring.
Comcast services will be offered in approximately 500 stores nationwide, at kiosks called “Connection Centers.” Customers can already purchase other products, such as cell phone service, at Connection Centers.
Comcast has 21.4 million cable customers in the U.S., 700,000 in Colorado. Nationwide, Comcast has 8.5 million high-speed Internet customers and 1.3 million digital phone subscribers.
As of March 2006, there are 57 Wal-Mart stores in Colorado.
For $59.97 Wal-Mart shoppers can purchase a package that includes a high-speed modem and accompanying software for Internet access.
“Our partnership with Wal-Mart further supports our continuing efforts to develop new ways to offer Comcast services to consumers at a time and place that’s convenient for them,” said Bob Faught, senior vice president of retail sales for Comcast, in a written statement. “More than 140 million consumers visit a Wal-Mart store every week.”
