The Rockies placed first baseman Todd Helton on the disabled list Saturday, as he continues going through a battery of tests at Rose Medical Center to determine the cause of his stomach ailment.
This is only Helton’s second stint on the DL. Last year he missed time because of a strained calf.
Manager Clint Hurdle would not discuss specifics of Helton’s illness.
“Out of respect for him and his family, I’m not going to say anymore. We just hope for his health and that every thing comes out on the plus side for him,” Hurdle said.
Outfielder Ryan Spilborghs replaces Helton on the roster. Eli Marrero and Jason Smith will split time at first base.
