Coffee: hot. Heart: warm.

St. Mark’s Coffeehouse is more than a neighborhood spot – it’s a success story.

Named after the patron saint of Venice, and Venetians being the first to import coffee into Europe, St. Mark’s Coffeehouse opened in 1993, the same year as Pope John Paul II’s visit to the Mile High City.

St. Mark’s proprietors sent a hand-written letter to the Vatican inviting the Pope to enjoy a cappuccino, and received a letter from the Vatican (really!) thanking them for the offer, and sending blessings from the Pope himself.

The owners now attribute their long history and very loyal patrons to that “divine intervention.” But you can enjoy their coffee drinks, pastries, sandwiches and more without a lot of holy fuss.

(p.s. their website is fun.)
