The Broncos’ pursuit of Javon Walker appears headed for the draft clock.

The disgruntled Green Bay Packers receiver departed Denver after a short visit and physical Friday and was set to go to New England. Philadelphia is expected to meet with Walker on Saturday as well. Walker began his whirlwind tour Thursday at New Orleans.

The Broncos, however, are expected to make a serious push for Walker. Denver is willing to give the receiver, a free agent after this season, a long-term contract. Still, a lack of time and competition for Walker’s services could make a deal difficult for Denver. The Packers are said to want a first-round pick but most teams are believed to be offering other packages, starting with second-round picks in this weekend’s draft. If a deal isn’t made by Saturday afternoon, compensation packages will have to rely on 2007 picks, which could delay a trade for some time.

Denver also was talking to other teams about trades, mostly focusing on draft-pick trades with several different scenarios possible. Denver, which has the No. 15 pick Saturday, could be very active regarding trades. The team also is shopping receiver Ashley Lelie, who has asked to be traded. Denver has discussed Lelie with Green Bay.
