NEW YORK-

A bar with a retractable covering, a day spa that turns into a nightclub after dark, and a place where you can have a drink while wiggling your toes in the sand in the middle of a major European city are among the 25 best new nightclubs around the world on Conde Nast Traveler's "Hot List."

The list appears in the magazine's May issue and also online at .

You can have wiener schnitzel and cocktails while sitting in a beach chair at Strandbar Herrmann in Vienna, a bar located on a beach made from trucked-in sand each summer on the shores of the Danube.

In Washington, D.C., the Tabaq has a glassed-in room with a retractable transparent covering that can transform it from glassed-in to open-air.

And in Manhattan, in the basement of the Gansevoort Hotel is the G Spa & Lounge, where hydrotherapy tubs by day become bar seats by night. Warning: The place is so exclusive that the magazine says would-be partiers have to know somebody or bribe somebody to get in.

In Australia, the magazine recommends Zeta Bar in Sydney on Level 4 at 488 George St., and on Grand Cayman Island, Sapphire Club in Seven Mile Shops on West Road. In China, check out the live music and lychee liquor at the Ice House at 53 Dong An Men St., Beijing; the Barbarossa Lounge inside People's Park in Shanghai, and Finds at 33 Wyndham St., Hong Kong.

In Copenhagen, there's the K Bar at 20 Ved Straden; in London, Annex 3, at 6 Little Portland St., and Movida, at 8-9 Argyll St.; and Le Paris Paris in, you guessed it, Paris, at 5 ave. de l'Opera.

Mumbai, India, has the Squeeze Nightclub at S.V. Road; Italy has the Freni e Frizioni, overlooking the Tiber in Rome at 4-6 Via Politeama; and Mexico City has its first major jazz club, Zinco, at 20 Calle Motolinia.

In San Juan, Puerto Rico, Kudeta, at 314 Fortaleza St., made the list, as did The KM8 on Santosa Island in Singapore at 120 Tanjong Beach Walk.

Closer to home, in California, the magazine recommends hanging out at Mini Bar in Palm Springs and at the Altitude Skybar & Garden Lounge, 22 floors up at the San Diego Marriott. Colorado's new hot spot is Corridor 44 in Larimer Square, while OM Restaurant and Lounge is a new place to be seen in Cambridge, Mass., in the Harvard Square area.

In Detroit, there's the Centaur Bar, ESPN's main VIP party site during the Super Bowl. New in Las Vegas are Pure, at Caesars Palace, and Tao, where you'll be greeted by 250 Buddhist monk statues. If low-key is more your style, you won't feel out of place typing away at your laptop at the Bar Belmont at the Belmont Hotel in Dallas.
